TRUE HANDS-ON, FARMER-TO-FARMER TRAINING
🌱 STANDARD
Biochar Training
(3 Days)
6,000 USD per person
Hands-on, farmer-to-farmer, fully practical.
The STANDARD training is an intensive three-day program designed to give farmers, landowners, and agronomists full operational mastery of small-to-medium scale biochar production. The focus is 100% practical: participants work directly with feedstock, kilns and activation systems. The course includes accommodation in the MVC Farm guest cabin (see photograph below) and all meals prepared on-site. International and domestic travel are arranged independently by participants; our team can assist with recommendations if needed.
1. Biochar Fundamentals
The training begins with a concise but rigorous introduction to the principles of pyrolysis, carbon stability, aromaticity, and how biochar functions in soil systems. Participants learn how temperature, feedstock type, moisture, and oxygen control influence final biochar quality. This module ensures every participant deeply understands why each step of the production process matters, rather than simply replicating instructions.
2. Biomass Selection, Drying & Preparation
Participants then move into the field to select, sort, and prepare biomass. You learn:
-
Which feedstocks produce high-quality biochar.
-
How to size, cut, and stack biomass for optimal loading.
-
Practical drying and storage strategies to keep moisture under control.
This module gives you the know-how to evaluate your own farm's waste streams and convert them into high-value carbon instead of burning them or leaving them unused.
3. Kiln Operation – Full Cycle
The centrepiece of the STANDARD training is the full operational cycle of the double-retort kiln.
Participants perform every step:
-
Loading the cartridges.
-
Managing ignition.
-
Controlling airflow and burn conditions.
-
Monitoring temperature.
-
Ensuring clean, smoke-free operation.
-
Cooling and safe unloading of the final biochar.
The goal is to make every participant fully operational with real equipment, under real farm conditions.
4. Biochar Activation
Pure biochar is stable but biologically inert. Therefore, we teach how to transform raw biochar into a nutrient-rich activated material ready for crops. You learn:
-
Moisture conditioning.
-
Compost integration.
-
Microbial inoculation.
-
Nutrient charge design depending on crop type and soil conditions.
By the end, participants can produce activated biochar tailored to their farm, increasing yield improvements significantly.
5. Checklists, Templates, and Operational Guidance
The course includes a complete package of:
-
Standard operating procedures (SOPs)
-
Daily checklists
-
Feedstock analysis sheets
-
Kiln operation logs
-
Activation recipes
-
Field application recommendations
Participants leave with a fully structured workflow that can be implemented on their farm the next day.
⭐ Outcome of the STANDARD Course
By the end of the three days, each participant will:
-
Know how to produce high-quality, stable biochar safely and efficiently.
-
Understand how to activate biochar for agricultural use.
-
Be able to apply biochar correctly in fields.
-
Have hands-on experience with equipment and processes.
-
Be ready to start producing biochar on their own property immediately.
This course is ideal for: farmers, landowners, agronomists, regenerative agriculture practitioners, and anyone who wants to start producing and using biochar professionally on their farm.

🔥 PLUS
Biochar & Carbon Credits Training
(5 Days)
10,000 USD per person
Full-spectrum training: production, activation, carbon standards, dMRV, and project design.
The PLUS training is a five-day advanced program that integrates all the practical modules of the STANDARD course with an additional deep dive into Isometric and Puro methodologies, dMRV requirements, sampling protocols, carbon accounting, and financial modeling of CDR projects. Designed for project developers, carbon teams, sustainability leaders, and sophisticated landowners, this training transforms participants into fully capable carbon project operators. Accommodation in the MVC Farm guest cabin (see photograph below) and all meals are included. International and domestic travel are arranged independently by participants; our team can assist with recommendations if needed.
1. Core Biochar Production Mastery
The first three days of the PLUS course mirror the STANDARD training but with expanded depth. Participants not only carry out the full biochar production cycle using MVC's own double-retort kilns but also analyse how temperature profiles, pyrolysis curves, feedstock variability, and moisture levels impact the chemical properties that matter for carbon removals—such as H/C_org ratios, bulk density, and ash content.
This expanded module prepares participants to produce consistent, certifiable material that meets the requirements of modern CDR standards.
2. Isometric & Puro Standards: Eligibility, Durability & Protocol Structure
A core difference of the PLUS course is a full technical review of the Isometric and Puro standards, focusing on:
-
Eligibility of feedstocks.
-
Reactor and process requirements.
-
Durability models (200 vs 1,000-year permanence criteria).
-
Organic carbon, inorganic carbon, and mass-balance considerations.
-
Thresholds for H/C_org and O/C_org ratios.
-
Safety restrictions (PAHs, heavy metals, PCDD/F, PCBs).
-
Requirements for site preparation, storage, and field incorporation.
Participants learn how each step of the production process maps to a specific requirement in the standard.
3. Full MRV (Monitoring, Reporting & Verification) Module
This module provides training on the MRV structure required to certify carbon removals:
-
Sampling protocols for carbon, hydrogen, moisture, ash, and volatile matter.
-
Laboratory testing methods (ISO, ASTM, DIN).
-
Field measurement and load documentation.
-
Digital MRV integration.
-
Pre-shipment storage monitoring.
-
Operator logs and evidence requirements.
This gives participants a complete understanding of how to run a project that passes verification on the first attempt.
4. Carbon Credits: Methodologies, Baselines & Project Design
Participants learn how to build a carbon project from scratch:
-
Selecting a standard and module.
-
Defining system boundaries.
-
Choosing the appropriate permanence option.
-
Incorporating feedstock flow, kiln throughput, and biochar yields.
-
Storage and burial system design.
-
Boundary conditions: land rights, site control, and legal documentation.
-
Additionality, conservativeness, and eligibility.
This transforms raw technical knowledge into a fully structured project blueprint.
5. CDR Financial Modeling & Commercial Strategy
We train participants to understand the financial structure of CDR projects:
-
Cost per tonne modelling (CAPEX, OPEX, labour).
-
Revenue models under different CDR markets.
-
Price ranges for Isometric, Puro, and voluntary CDR buyers.
-
Scaling strategies for multi-farm deployment.
-
Risks, sensitivity analysis, and portfolio diversification.
By the end of the module, participants are able to assess whether a project is economically viable and how to optimise both production and storage phases.
⭐ Outcome of the PLUS Course
By the end of five days, each participant will:
-
Master biochar production and activation.
-
Understand every major requirement of Isometric and Puro standards.
-
Be capable of designing a fully compliant carbon removal project.
-
Know how to build MRV documentation and sampling plans.
-
Be able to model project economics and assess profitability.
-
Leave with a clear, personalised roadmap for deployment.
This course is ideal for: carbon developers, sustainability teams, agribusiness decision-makers, large landowners, and anyone entering the carbon credit markets with serious intent.
